Individual and Family Name Options

Several options for names are available for individuals and families. These include...

  • For Individuals: Preferred Name, Formal Full Name
  • For Families: Family Label Name, Family Greeting

These name options are used on labels, giving statements, emails, and more, but they aren't required. Whenever a name option isn't filled in, First Name and Last Name are used.

Individual Name Options: Preferred Name and Formal Full Name

For example, let's look at the record for Emeline Abshire in the image:

  • First Name "Emiline" and Last Name "Abshire" creates a full, usable record.
  • Add Preferred Name "Em", and the system will typically show her as "Em Abshire" or, when Full Name is expected "Emeline Abshire". Her profile will show "Em (Emiline) Abshire"
  • Add a Formal Full Name "Dr. Emiline Marybeth Abshire" as needed to reflect a title, middle name, or multiple family names. The Formal Full Name will display under First Name/Last Name on the Profile page and will be used instead of Full Name as detailed below.

Family Names

The Family Label Name can be used on labels when you want a more specific alternative to the system-generated Family name (based on a couple's First and Last Names).

The Family Greeting Name can be used on statements when you want a more specific alternative to the name options in the statement templates.

Both Family Label Name and Family Greeting Name are optional.

Specific Features Using Name Options

  1. When creating Labels for individuals, options include "Use Preferred Name" and "Use Formal Full Name"
  2. When creating Labels Print Labels with "Group by family" selected, a checkbox allows "Use Family Label Name," in addition to the long set of options for handling couples and families.
  3. On Statements, each of the name options are built into the statement placeholders, including:
    • Individual: "@FULLNAME" - if Formal Full Name exists, it replaces Firstname Lastname
    • Family Label Name: "@FAMILYFULLNAMES", "@FAMILYPREFFULLNAMES" - if Family Label Name exists, it is used
    • Family Greeting Name: "@FAMILYNAMES", "@FAMILYPREFNAMES" - if Family Greeting Name exists, it is used
  4. On send email: Individual: "@FULLNAME" - if Full Name exists, it replaces Firstname Lastname
  5. On Giving Input lookup, a Formal Full Name will display instead of simply First Name Last Name.
  6. On Check-in lookup, a Formal Full Name will display instead of the address to help select from similar names.
